Don't listen to (011. Bread) if you happened to have downloaded it before I deleted it. Turns out there was 15-20 minutes of unedited stuff tacked on to the end that I didn't catch, and i KNOW you didn't want to listen to the flour grinder or water running while nothing interesting was being said. OOPS. Here is the revised edition. However, in the editing process I ended up putting the "mixing" and "kneading" part AFTER the part where the bread came out of the oven. Oh well, enjoy. Here is Grandma's bread recipe: "Sorry about the indefinites, baking homemade bread is not a science, it's a labor of love." - Grandma Honey Whole Wheat read (the bread I used to be famous for) - makes 5-7 loaves, depending on pans used. 2 quarts warm water 1/4 cup, or 3-4 packages, of yeast 4-6 eggs 1 cup oil 1 cup honey 1 Tablespoon salt Enough unbleached white flour to make a sponge - 4-5 cups 1 cup toasted wheat germ 3 cups dry milk, optional 1 cup cracked wheat, or cooked oatmeal, optional About 4 pounds whole wheat flour, or a mixture of flours - add just enough to make a slightly sticky dough, knead until smooth, let rise and knead again. For light, even-grained bread let rise at least twice. Bake in a 375 degree oven for an hour or until deeply browned. Butter top when removed from oven. |

Or find me at a fiber event to get one for free! Judy's Hamburger Pie Combine: 1/4 cup potato flakes, 1 Tablespoon sugar, 1 teaspoon baking soda, 2 cups flour, 1 teaspoon cream of tartar. Cut in: 1/3 cup butter. Add: 1/2 cup milk and 1/4 cup mayonnaise. Divide in 2. Roll or pat half out on cookie sheet, in vaguely circular manner. Roll or pat out the rest a little larger than that. Saute: 1.5 lb hamburger, 1/2 cup onion, 1 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon pepper. Add 1 egg, 1/4 cup ketchup, 1 Tablespoon mustard, 1/2 cup potato flakes. Put the meat mix on the flat crust, on the cookie sheet. Sprinkle some cheese on top. Top with top crust, pinch edges. The "pie" will be mounded up on the cookie sheet, not in a pie pan. Bake at 375 for 20 minutes. Even better the second day. |

See the difference in the photo. The bottom 1/3 (ish) is the inadvertently used 3ply handspun, and the rest is the 2ply that the sweater is supposed to be made with. I ripped it. The white bits are where you can see around the yarn in the stitches. The lovely striping color progression also got all muddied in the 3ply. Ugh. DO NOT knit after the witching hour - trust me! :) |
